YOUR GOD IS A MERCIFUL GOD

YOUR GOD IS A MERCIFUL GOD

“And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious…” (Exodus 34:6 KJV)

No one can keep God’s laws. No one! The Ten Commandments were never given to be kept. God didn’t give the commandments to be kept. He knew the people would fail. The law was given so that man can come to the end of himself and understand that he cannot help himself.
Notice that as soon as God finished giving the law in the book of Exodus, His mercies and loving kindness began to speak. In Exodus 20:24 (KJV) it is written: “An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.” God gave Israel His laws, and in His mercy and omniscience, He knew they could not keep it. So, in advance He said, prepare an altar because I know you will fail. Let that altar be the place that I will meet with you so that I will bless you.

That altar represents Jesus, our final sacrifice. That altar signifies what Jesus did on our behalf. God was saying here are the laws, but I will not let the devil kill you because I have great plans for your life. I will deal with you from the altar. However, some Christians still want to deal with God from the table of the laws.

Beloved, stop functioning from the table of the laws. Come to the cross and partake of the mercies in Christ. Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the mercy of God. Christ is God’s answer to man’s inability to keep the law. You cannot function from the table of the laws and expect to access His mercy. Look away from yourself, and receive by faith what His mercy has accomplished for you in Christ. The God we serve is merciful and His mind is full of you. Don’t let the devil cower you, God’s love for you is everlasting.
